From June 12th to June 13th, 2024, the Town Campus hosted its annual Health Week organized by the Students’ Affairs Office. The event aimed to promote health and wellness among students, focusing on both physical and mental well-being.

The first day, themed mental health awareness day, began with an Opening Speech from The Campus Director Dr. Ibrahim Tirimba, urging students to prioritize their well-being. Ms. Tasha Amadi, campus counselor, led a session titled “Myths and Facts about Mental Health,” debunking misconceptions and offering valuable insights into mental health issues. Dr. Regina Wafula from AAR followed with “Managing Stress,” providing practical strategies for stress management and enhancing mental wellness. Dr. Joseph Wahothi of Equity Afia then discussed “Managing Addiction,” stressing the importance of seeking help, treatment options, recovery, and self-care. Students received complimentary medical check-ups from Equity Afia, including blood pressure, eye exams, and dental assessments, promoting proactive health management.

The second day continued to emphasize overall well-being. Dr. Wakesho led a workshop on “Preventive Healthcare, Healthy Living, and Nutrition,” highlighting the importance of regular check-ups, healthy lifestyles, and nutritious eating habits for disease prevention. Joseph Wabola, Main Campus security officer, conducted a session on “Emergency Response Training,” equipping students with essential skills for personal safety and emergency situations. Avenue Health Care provided free medical check-ups during lunch, offering BMI assessments, blood sugar tests, blood pressure checks, and pulse rate evaluations to monitor students’ health statuses.

Health Week 2024 was a resounding success, thanks to the contributions of knowledgeable speakers and active student participation. The event not only raised awareness about mental health, stress management, addiction, and preventive healthcare but also equipped students with practical tools for healthier living.

As we look ahead, we remain committed to fostering health and well-being within our campus community. We extend our gratitude to all participants, organizers, and sponsors who made Health Week 2024 a memorable and impactful event.
